Guess who’s intending to join the browser wars. Google has announced — or rather illustrated its plans to develop a more robust browser by the name of Chrome. This isn’t really that surprising. After all, it’s just a matter of time. Some found it strangely amusing when it released its own mobile platform but for such a web apps mammoth a browser shouldn’t be any different.

Whether or not it’s correct to say they are joining the browser wars, I think we can be sure of one thing - developers and designers alike will have something to be excited about.

After about an hour, the train finally made its way to the last stop in the west - Boon Lay. Throughout the journey from way far in the east, I had to endure standing by the door on one side leaning on a glass panel next to the seats. As I felt the train easing and seemingly making its last few meters to the stop I did what normal people in haste would do. I decided to quickly move to the door on the other side which I remembered alighting from the previous day.

In the most gentlemanly manner, I cautiously made my way through a few passengers. With “excuse me’s” and “sorry’s” I eventually reached the other side though it was a chore having to squeeze along with a bulky field pack. For a moment, I felt a sense of achievement. I was certain I was saving up few crucial minutes to get to the bus interchange on time. That was until I saw a reflection of people crowding by the opposite door which all along I had been standing next to. I ignored. I was confident I would be the first to alight because I had to otherwise I would be serving time doing unnecessary sentry duties past office hours. The train was still moving, but in about a few seconds it would drive in to the station and stop by the platform. But it became more obvious as crowd grew bigger on the other side. I turned halfway to get a glance only to see an office guy giving me a puzzled look but I knew he wasn’t the only one.

It all became clear. The door opening was the one I moved away from and now I was stuck behind all the passengers, cringing in embarrassment. Still in denial, I immediately planned a cover up to reduce the impact of probably one of the most humbling moments in life. I pretended to be talking over the phone, smiling at myself as I joined the crowd on the way out. Well it was a bad move and I know that didn’t work but that was the best I could think of.

Everything would have been an okay experience, a typical mistake I could have easily smiled away. But all that happened with myself in my Smart 4 uniform that clearly displayed my name and the organization I belong to. So much for being in SMART 4.

Lately I’ve been busy trying hard to be good at CG art. Yes, just trying hard. Blame it on the talented people I’ve met who make me feel I can do the same. Note the word feel. So as I continued to feel I can do it, I stumbled upon some really neat resources and tutorials. Some of which happened to be done by Kim Hyung-Tae, the man behind the Magna-Carta game’s CG arts.

I remember heavily using some of his character designs on a personal website some 7 years ago. Not that I’ve been trying hard for almost a decade now, his works were fitting to the anime-themed kiddyish web design I was doing back then.

…that a student killed a school girl. I’ve heard of stories about people getting shot after struggling to fend off hand phone snatchers. Just as their phones were gone, so were their lives. Sad. Back in the Philippines, we were reminded time and again to just let go. If someone snatches anything away just let go because you can never tell what else awaits when you make another step to grab it back. Most of them don’t really mind ending your life for a phone.

It’s quite funny though every time I look back at those cases. Time goes by and new things come up and we have the iPhone and whatnot to drool at. But the culprits back then actually killed for a Nokia 8250. I know it was the hot thing at the time, but it still sounds stupid now. Maybe they too feel stupid every time they see the latest Nokia hand phone, especially knowing they killed someone over a device that’s no longer manufactured.

iPhone 3G is out on the shelves here in Singapore but I’m hesitating. I know it’s one of most hyped phones recently and I can’t deny that in a way it revolutionizes how we deal with hand phones. Gooey-wise, feature-wise, design-wise, etc. all would agree they are new but can’t really judge now if it’s any better. I personally feel it bundles up quite a number of qualities I look for in a phone. For one, its organization of text messages beats that of what we usually use. Just like how Gmail organizes the emails in conversations so does the iPhone with the text messages.

The thing now is, it’d be more of an impulse buying considering it more as a want than a need. I still have one that works and as much as I would like to, it doesn’t seem about time. Nevertheless, it’ll definitely still be on my to-buy queue.
