Wordpress’ Turbo

I’ve updated to 2.6.1 Wordpress yesterday without caring much about what it has to offer. I usually see x.x.1 updates as really minor updates which patch mainly potential security concerns and whatnot. Well I’m blogging not because of any new features I noticed with 2.6.1. I know it’d be ridiculous but I’m saying it anyway. For about 2 months I’ve been oblivious of 2.6’s upgrade features. I remember posting about it but my comments mainly revolved around aesthetics. Apparently, that was all I knew they changed. So finally I tried to become a little more observant that ‘Turbo’ link on the top of the admin page.
So for those new to Wordpress, yes it does support Google gears with a click on that Turbo link. Google gears, you probably have heard of it somewhere before. It’s a Google-ish initiative to complement rich web applications. Simply put it allows web apps to behave like desktop apps — say you can browse through your gmail inbox with your favorite browser offline. Get the idea? With it you can navigate through your mails freely without the limitations of not having connection to the internet which is a trait of desktop applications like Outlook. Of course you don’t receive emails when disconnected, the idea is accessibility to your mails already in your account. I’m not sure how it works for Wordpress, but somehow I get the gist and I sense it’s cool… Sorry I can’t really express it well especially knowing that I’m 2 months late and everybody already knows.
