Korean-ized

Channel U airs this Friday Night Owl program. It has been airing Korean movies - every Friday, duh! For that reason I have something to look forward to every Friday night. You see, when I went back to the Philippines a few years back and caught this Lovers in Paris that everybody seemed to be die-hard fans of, at first I thought it was weird. Because all along before we left for good, mostly it was either local or Mexican/Spanish dramas like the Marimar, Gata Salvaje and all sorts series with romantic sounding titles. So initially, having learned of this new trend of airing Korean dramas (which soon was termed Koreanovela, short for korean telenovela) it was strange. Maybe if it was Japanese series, it wouldn’t be a surprise considering the tons of anime dominating afternoon primetimes. But Korean?! Back then all I knew was that Korea was a war-torn country divided into half across the 38th parallel on the globe. Pretty much it. Never heard of anything that’s got to do with entertainment at all.
Lovers in Paris was the first Korean series I caught(partly, because we didn’t stay long enough) and it made a good impression that I splurged some time off to catch 2 hour episodes of My Girl on weekend nights months back on Channel U. Pity I wasn’t able to watch all. Nevertheless, I managed to catch the ending.
Last friday was fitting to the date Friday the 13th. It was a korean horror film that I have no idea what the title was. The story was about this 29th step on the 28-steps staircase on a school yard. Anyone who’s managed to make it to step on the 29th step which mysteriously appears to someone who has wished well enough(or desperate enough), will have his/her wishes granted. It all started with a few making wishes for material possessions until a cute retard wishes for her schoolmate-idol to come back because she misses her. Thing is her idol’s dead. So you you know what happens next.
As I speak, a motorcycle’s speeding along the empty road opposite our block. I don’t have any issues with speeding and I kind of don’t really care if that guy hits the speed of light. I just hope that the next time he does that, he wouldn’t make as much noise as he’s doing now that I think is so boisterous that it can awake everyone on the block to curse him.
